A few random things.

Wicked

We went to see Wicked yesterday and I was pretty blown away by how great it is. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a musical that I thought was this good — probably years ago, when I saw Rent. I ordered the sheet music and I’m excited to fiddle around with it. The Chicago leads — Kristy Cates as Elphaba and Stacie Morgan Lewis as Glinda —

were both fantastic. Strongly recommended.

The price of gas

Am I the only one who has noticed that the price of gas has declined considerably as we approach the election? Hmmm.

Red and blue

On the subject of the election, I probably shouldn’t, but I really should: It certainly looks like the Democrats have a good chance of regaining control of Congress this year. I’m not sure which is more frightening to me: Two more years of a Republican monopoly, or the Democrats finally getting power back and being forced to come up with a coherent plan…

The storm and the sea

I went for a nine-mile training walk this morning (listening to my newly andlegitimately downloaded soundtrack of Wicked) and was struck by how quickly fall has rolled over us. It couldn’t have been more than 40 degrees out, with driving rain, and heavy north wind —

the waves were rolling out of the lake like dogs out of a cage, breaking at ten to twelve feet. Incredible.
