Something that actually worked.

As you can probably tell, I am a computer junkie. I tinker with my computer the way some people tinker with their cars. I like fiddling, being under the hood whether I’m driving anywhere or not.
The problem is that most things computer-related take ten times longer than they should, and never work the way they are supposed to. And that’s on a Mac —
forget about a PC. There are always unforeseen complications, or one extra undocumented step, or some other obstacle.
The other day, however, I did something that actually worked the first time! My hard drive was getting completely full —
the kicker was a new installation of Final Cut Studio 2 that added about 50 GBs to the drive. Wowzers. I wanted to keep my entire drive but simply image it over to a larger volume.
I looked at Carbon Copy Cloner and several other utilities but finally ended up just using the “Restore” function in Apple’
s own Disk Utility. I installed a new, much larger drive in the bay under the current drive, ran Disk Utility, restored my current drive onto the new drive, and presto! It actually worked. My original drive perfectly cloned but with much more breathing room. I was pretty stunned it worked the first time without a hitch.
My lucky year!
